DescriptionView of a four wheeled carriage traveling from right to left with cloth slide curtains, a cloth roof, and a lantern on the near side, being pulled by a gray horse. The rig is moving at a fast rate of speed, kicking up dust. A bearded male, cut from a photograph and applied, is driving the carriage. He wears a brown jacket, brown hat, and brown gloves. A lighter brown striped lap blanket covers his lower body. Rolling hills and fields appear in the middle and far distance.
Curatorial RemarksThe first two initials of the artist's name are conjoined, hence the confusion over whether it is B. J. or J. B. The Association's collection contains another watercolor of a horse and sulky signed by this same artist entitled "Betty K.," which is not dated. Its accession number is 2083A.1.NotesThe identity of the artist and the location of this scene remains unknown.
