DescriptionA plain arm chair with bow shaped crest rail ending in ears over a vase shaped splat. The rear stiles flare slightly. Curved arms terminate in fluted hand rests with a volute underneath. The seat rails lack any type of molding on their upper edge. The front rail has a pendant in the center of the skirt. Cabriole legs end in trifid feet. The slip seat retains its original foundation upholstery, but has been recovered with red leather that has darkened to brown. Remnants of framing on the inside surface of the seat rails indicate that the chair was once equipped with a chamber pot.
Curatorial RemarksGiven its plain features, the arm chair was apparently made in the Delaware Valley but not in Philadelphia, especially as the seat rails lack a molded upper edge. The skirt has been reshaped, apparently when the chamber pot support structure was removed.
