DescriptionA small-sized round table with a plain pine top fastened with original screws and a hand wrought nail to a single batten underneath that has been chamfered on its ends. The cherry frame consists of simple rails beaded on their lower edge, four baluster turned and splayed legs, and four rectangular stretchers that are worn on their upper edge. The legs end in ball feet that have also worn. The table retains a very old dark red stained finish.Curatorial RemarksThe table top was fashioned from one pine board. However, it has split down the center where a wrought nail was driven through it into the batten and peaned over underneath. A rectangle with diagonal lines and cross hatching has also been crudely carved into the underside of the top, perhaps before the table was made.NotesAssociation accession records described the table as "Small round tavern table. Pine (?), 4 stretchers, legs prettily turned & small balls at the bottom."
