DescriptionThe curved rear stiles, which are molded, form a continuous profile with the rounded crest rail. The back consists of a single leather-upholstered panel curved in the same manner as the stiles. The leather, secured with brass tacks, covers the lower part of the crest rail and the entire front of the rectangular shoe. The front legs feature baluster turnings above and below the front stretcher, which is of tripartite form with a reel flanked by two ball turnings and ending in conical terminals. The rear legs which are square in profile, rake to the back. The side and rear stretchers are rectangular in shape. The leather seat is upholstered over the rails and held in place with brass tacks around the bottom edge. All leather upholstery was renewed in the 1970s.Curatorial RemarksFor further information about the use of Boston made leather chairs in this style by families in Monmouth County, see accession number 1979.12.NotesAccession records described the chair as "Single chair. Queen Anne style. Maple, Bulbous stretcher, in front, block & turned legs, small ball feet in front, plain feet in back, old leather seat." The chair has since had its leather upholstery renewed.
