DescriptionA rectangular album quilt with 18 blocks set on point with apple green sashing, all featuring bold applique motifs in such patterns as Oak Leaf and Reel and Tulip variations in vivid red, green, yellow, and deep blue-green woven cotton. Fourteen half blocks, appearing as triangles and set on point, border the full blocks, with a meandering floral vine border along the left, right, and bottom sides of the quilt. The quilt includes a scalloped edging along all four sides bound in narrow solid red cotton. The quilt has a light cotton batting and plain white cotton backing fabric.
NotesThis beautifully made and boldly designed applique album quilt entered the collection with abrief description noting only that it had been made in Monmouth County for William M. Mount by his grandmother. A search of individuals of this name have uncovered several men of this name, most in either the Keyport or the Freehold area. Ongoing research may yet uncover the name of the loving woman who created this powerful fabric work of art for her grandson.
