The buckle was donated by his daughter, Mrs. John VanBrunt.NotesThis buckle was worn during the Civil War by Union soldier Charles Liming (1841-1912) of Company H, 48th Regiment, New York Volunteers. According to accession records, it saved Liming's life on the battlefield. Its misshapen appearance lends credibility to the theory that it may have been struck by a bullet.
