DescriptionA crudely carved wooden spoon, with a long handle and a small notch in the tip of the bowl. A handwritten inscription on paper runs along the length of the handle, and reads "CIVIL WAR SOLDIERS HAD TO EAT / FROM THESE SPOONS."
Curatorial RemarksA wooden spoon such as this one, used during the Civil War by an unknown soldier, was an ideal utensil, as it was easy to carry, lightweight, and not subject to rust.
