DescriptionA man's uniform cap of sturdy black wool/nylon blend twill fabric over a wire armature and lined with cotton. The cap sides are stiffened with buckram and faced with a brown leather sweatband. A single eyelet is placed above the brim for an insignia or badge. Pairs of vent eyelets are placed on either side of the crown underside. The cap includes a narrow rounded brim of glossy black patent leather-look vinyl lined with dark green textured vinyl. On the inside, in a clear plastic sleeve, is the maker tag reading "Uniforms by Miller / Freehold N.J. / Uniforms & Accessories / For Every Need."NotesMiller Uniforms began as a drycleaning business founded in 1925 by Abraham and Lena Miller. The store, located on Throckmorton street, was successful. After graduating from Rider College with a business degree, son Charles R. Miller (1925 - 2013) took over operations. Miller had the store renovated and enlarged, expanded the tuxedo rental and menswear departments. Miller also ventured into uniform rental and purchase. According to an Asbury Park Press article in January of 1972, "Many of the area police and fire department personnel are outfitted at Miller's." Charles Miller was also highly active in the community. He was one of the founders of the Freehold Area Hospital, later Centrastate Medical Center. Miller was also a member of the Freehold Jewish Congregation, the Rotary Club, and the Freehold Elks. He died in 2013 at the age of 87.
