DescriptionLandscape view of a white-painted house with red shutters and a high pitched roof. A gable end with centered entrance faces the street. A single chimney abutts an extension of the structure on the long side wall of eight bays. Foundation plantings include green bushes and flowering plants. Two evergreen trees flank the front of the house, and a large tree appears on the left side of the composition. Under it are more flowering bushes. A roadway occupies the lower right corner of the painting. A pathway runs along the side of the house. The sky is blue with many white and gray clouds.NotesThe home depicted in this work is located at 22 Kings Highway in Middletown village opposite Penelope Lane. It was built around 1900 and occupied by Mrs. Nellie Walker. It also housed additional patients from Ivy House, a nursing home across the street operated by Mrs. Walker. The work is one of the earliest executed by Gulick after he entered Ivy House in 1961.
