DescriptionA rectangular wooden panel surrounded on four sides by a simple molding, decorated with a blue ground pigment, then decorated with a white center panel which contains a large bunch of grapes in its center surrounded by grape leaves, the a border on the sides and bottom of addition grape vines with leaves and bunches of grapes. An additional border of vines, leaves and flowers appear on either side of the center panel, which is outlined in black. Gold leaf lettering reads "Benjamin Gibson" at the top of the panel, and "Born in the year of our Lord / 1795" in the bottom margin. Additional gold leaf decoration of a running vine with leaves crosses the top of the white center panel.NotesThe U. S. Federal Census Mortality Schedules for 1850 list a Benjamin Gibson, born in 1795, who died in July 1850 in Gloucester County, NJ. He was a farmer, and died of cholera.
