DescriptionA badge of off-white silk with decorative blue ribbons at the top and bottom. White silk has decorative vertical ribbing about 1/2 inch wide on the left and right sides. In black stamped on the silk, "NEW JERSEY / WHIG DELEGATION / TO THE NATIONAL / CONVENTION / 2ND. MAY 1844." Also in black, stamped in center, a picture depicting two allegorical figures, leaning on a shield between them. The left holds a flag pole, and the right holds a wheat sheath and cornucopia. A banner underneath the figures reads, "LIBERTY & PROSPERITY." Pale blue ribbons are sewn to the top and bottom portions of the ribbon.
NotesThe 1844 Whig National Convention was held in Baltimore, Maryland on May 1. The nominated presidential candidates were Henry Clay of Kentucky for President, and Theodore Frelinghuysen of New Jersey for Vice-President.
