DescriptionThis early table form features a wide two-part board top with a pair of cleats dovetailed to its underside and fitting on either side of the table's frame. The frame itself includes a single drawer with wedged dovetail construction and quite possibly the original wooden drawer pull, four baluster turned legs ending in original ball feet, and four plain rectangular stretchers.Curatorial RemarksIn an unusual construction feature, the cleats on the underside of the top are slid into a long dovetail from the back edge. It stops just short of the front edge so that it does not show. The purpose of the cleats was to keep the top from warping. Pins are then inserted through the cleats into the side rails of the table to keep the top in place. This particular table appears to retain its original wooden drawer pull. It also retains all four original turned ball feet.
