DescriptionA section of 4.25" strands of twisted rope fringe, light gold in color, joined together across the top. Very faint hues of burgundy can be seen in the silk.
Curatorial RemarksThe silk cords originally appeared red or burgundy in color; faint remnants can still be seen in the fabric, which has faded to a dull gold.NotesThis piece of fringe was taken from the lectern of Old Tennent Church, Manalapan, Monmouth County, by wounded soldiers who were treated in the Church's makeshift hospital during the Battle of Monmouth, 28 June 1778. The existing building has served the Presbyterian Church since 1751, and the structure has remained virtually unchanged since that time.
