DescriptionNecklace, with a large central circular element in silver filigree scrolls, set with faceted pink paste gems, and surrounded by ten tiny seed pearls alternating with eight circular and oval pink paste gems. Two smaller circular elements flank the central one, also containing pink paste gems and seed pearl surrounds. Thirteen pendants of pear-cut paste stones dangle from the necklace chain, comprised of small pink faceted stones set in linked silver settings. The necklace closes with a simple hook and eye.
NotesThis elegant pink paste gemstone and silver necklace, dating from the mid 19th century, descended within the Butler family of Keyport, Monmouth County, New Jersey. Keyport was a vibrant and successful steamboat production center, as well as being a central location for local Monmouth County farmers to load their produce onto vessels traveling to the big New York City markets. During the nineteenth century, Keyport also boasted numerous hotels, summer resort spots, and many successful businesses. It would not have been unusual for one of Keyport's successful families to own such a sparkling fashion accessory.
