DescriptionA sunny day view of a beach scene with two groups of two and four people wading in shallow water in the foreground. Five more people are shown on a sand bar just offshore which has a sailboat and several power boats drawn up on the sand. Several more sailboats are anchored in shoal water further offshore. A line of hills is depicted in the distance across a bay. Puffy white clouds appear in the sky.
Curatorial RemarksMaxwell S. Simpson (1896 - 1984), a New Jersey native, was born in Elizabeth but for many years maintained his residence and studio in Scotch Plains.NotesWith its shoal water and sand bars, this scene mostly resembles the view along the Monmouth Bayshore looking toward Staten Island in the distance.
