DescriptionA tea table comprised of a circular rounded edge top with two cleats mounted to the underside and attached with pin hinges to a birdcage assembly, allowing the top to swivel and tilt upright for storage. A small brass spring latch is mounted to the underside of the top to secure it when in use. The top and birdcage assembly fit over the dowel portion of the turned baluster pedestal, held in place with a removable wooden wedge. Three cabriole legs end in pad feet.
Curatorial RemarksMade of the highest quality of mahogany, the master craftsman who fashioned this table cut the legs so that the wood grain forms ovals on all three knees. The grain of the top is also highly figured. The cleats on the underside of the top are made of cherry.NotesLillian Wilkinson Boschen (1892 - 1974) ran an antiques business in Freehold, Monmouth County, for many years. A daughter of Samuel W.
