He wears a black cap, black jacket, and vest with a casually tied black stock fastened in front with a stickpin and chain. The portrait is housed in a maroon leather case with padded green silk lining, held in place beneath colorless glass with green plush velvet edging.
NotesRecords indicate that the sitter is Lieutenant Henry Yeatman Glisson (d.1868), a Lieutenant in the United States Navy. Glisson was born and died in Philadelphia; he was the eldest son of Rear Admiral Oliver Glisson (1809-1890)
