DescriptionA long oval miniature of a man, depicted in 3/4 view facing proper right. The portrait is done on beige board, retaining its original gilt frame and black mat.
Curatorial RemarksAn inscription on the reverse reads: "The within is a portrait of John Stout / son of Richard Stout and Penelope Park Stout / John Stout was born June 30th 1760 / died March 7th 1833 / married Eunice Evans / by whom he had a son William born May 23rd/ William Stout married Anna Saxton by whom he had sons, Richard, Abraham Runtle and Zephania. Richard Stout was born March 20th, 1806 / married Abigail H. Stout. Their oldest is the present John W. Stout Jr. who was born October 12th 1831 / The above John Stout died while holding the bench at Trenton as presiding Judge / and distinguished himself during the Revolution by capturing unaided two tories , keeping them overnight and marching them / [to] the American camp. He was home [on] furlough at the time."Notes
