DescriptionA badge of deep blue silk, bisected by a gold-tone silk sash, and edged with gold-tone metallic thread fringe. Designs are stamped in metallic silver ink. Geometric patterns line the top and bottom borders. Stamped on the blue ribbon: "PYTHIAN / FIELD DAY / of / NEW JERSEY / 1893. / FREEHOLD, / SEPTEMBER 4TH." The logo of the Knights of Pythias is also stamped (above the word "Freehold"). On the short ribbon sewn on the front, "ASS'T. MARSHAL."Curatorial RemarksFraternal field days were typically held annually. Adults (usually men) participated, representing businesses or other organizations from various local regions.NotesThe Knights of Pythias is a secret, fraternal organization founded in Washington, D.C. in 1864.
