DescriptionA man's small watch fob, of gold, with a rectangular base and opework frame upper, retaining its original gold split ring. The base is inset with a simple cut diamond with beveled edges.NotesWilliam Truex Casler was born in 1840 in Middletown, the son of Harriet Truex and John Casler. He worked as a successful blacksmith and wheelwright. Casler later became a traveling sales representative for Broderick Supply Company, a firm located at 44 Rose Street in Manhattan, dealing with wagon materials and supplies. Casler married Isabella Van de Vort in 1867, another Middletown resident. The Historical Association also has a large and beautiful cameo brooch belonging to Elizabeth Casler Truex. Both brooch and watch fob may in fact have been the bride and groom's wedding gifts to one another.
